I have this thought, whether it is correct is debatable, but it is this: there is ‘benign capitalism’ and ‘malignant capitalism’. At least in Capitalism there is potentially the development of people and finances and the potential reward of effort. Incentive to make money or develop your own potential has more of a chance to grow in the soil of Capitalism than most other systems. It’s not ideal, but then what is in this fallen world?
However what Capitalism does do is strengthen the heart’s desire for the material world as we have just discussed.
Very briefly, ‘benign’ capitalism is the selling of goods and services that both the seller wishes to sell and the buyer wishes to buy! Both are happy as they agree on the price which they or the market decide. This is simplistically called the ‘win- win’ situation.
Malignant Capitalism is just that-- malignant like a cancer. The seller is corrupt, and the buyer or receiver is ripped off and left out of pocket or in regret or just plain angry and disgusted. The number of tricks, chicanery, sleights of hands, hidden fees or scams or many perfectly legal methods for taking your money for very little or zero returned value is an ancient practice. From the government charging its people for rainfall in Bolivia*, to charging you to park your car in the UK in a hospital car park to see your sick relatives for a few hours, or even if you just happen to work there! Imagine! Some malignant capitalists even have the gall to charge their own staff a large fee to park at their place of work.
And then once you finish paying your car parking and get into the hospital and wish to buy a tube of toothpaste for a relative, you will have to pay £8 for it instead of the usual £1 or £2. How I look at things and the anger I feel I do believe is similar to that which Jesus felt when he purged out all those greedy money-making Capitalists. If you can imagine in real life, these exorbitant prices were made by people in full knowledge of what they were doing. No wonder that rich man feasted sumptuously every day! Luke 16:19.
An individual in charge of pricing, or a small team must have made these and other prices at the WH Smith store in a hospital, putting profit ahead of the need of people ‘trapped’ by circumstance; this is the spirit of capitalism itself and is repeated across the globe constantly. Then these prices possibly had to be approved by a man or woman or another team. This is downright evil, and the people involved we can say are also evil. They may get bonuses for their evil. Well, that’s the spirit on a small scale. In the UK we have at least recourse to complain, but the wheels of justice and change here grind exceedingly slow. You can be sure there are going to be no malignant capitalists like these in the Millennium and the next world.
It’s clear to me in recent years that God is speaking to this nation on a national level, and if you are not British, I’m sure if you think about your country you may very well see the same pattern. It seems God presents a tragedy or disaster to us and then lets the people choose their reaction, whether it be righteous and godly or indifferent or the third type, which is those willing to maintain the status quo and hide the truth so none can see it.
In recent years, we had the disaster at the tower of Grenfell, where scores of people and children were burned alive in the block of flats, trapped inside a building whose fire protection some departments of government and some building contractors knew were totally useless. The outcry of the local people and others has still not died down and the digging to unearth and unmask who obfuscated and smudged and hid all the appropriate paperwork is still going on.
72 Needless deaths at the Tower of Grenfell.
A year or two later the unbelievable treatment of the Windrush generation came to light. This is a huge thing and if you don’t know about it please look it up.* To me this summarises the British Spirit of those in power who always treat such poor or vulnerable people the same. I would like to draw attention to the fact that this type of treatment continues century after century, as one only needs to read Dickens, William Booth’s book on England or many others since the days of Ralph Venning in the 1600’s to see nothing has changed.

And so, what will happen next? God is sifting the nations and he will undoubtedly expose some new national or regional sins to get people to understand more about mercy, kindness, greed, judgement and much more.
Look at the ‘good people’ of Sheffield who eventually had to come out en masse before they stopped the profit and money driven destruction of their trees across their streets where they live! I mean, the local residents were never consulted that their beautiful tree lined streets would be denuded of all their trees which make up the beauty and ambience of their homes for years. It was all going to be wiped out literally overnight.
The local government was farming out the destruction (cutting down) of 17,500 local trees which lined the beautiful suburbs of Sheffield, some for hundreds of years, purely under the guise of health and safety and the ‘improvement of the streets’. How streets can be improved by destroying the beautiful trees is a close step away from George Orwell’s 1984 book.
The Capitalist plan would have been accomplished had it not been for an uprising of righteous anger against the council and the contractors.
Trees are vital, and imagine, if I only had the same passion to save souls for Jesus as the people of Sheffield have had for their trees.
Wherever you are and wherever you live or work, this amazing falsification and system of Capitalism is rampant.
The Bible has plenty to say about this, God knows all this inside out and he will repay one day. I love some of these verses on the topic!
He that putteth not out his money to usury, nor taketh reward against the innocent. He that doeth these things shall never be moved.
The words of his mouth were smoother than butter, but war was in his heart: his words were softer than oil, yet were they drawn swords.
1Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart.
2 But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps++ had well nigh slipped.
3 For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
4 For there are no bands in their death: but their strength is firm.
5 They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men.
6 Therefore pride compasseth them about as a chain; violence covereth them as a garment.
7 Their eyes stand out with fatness: they have more than heart could wish.
8 They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: they speak loftily.
9 They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth.
10 Therefore his people return hither: and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them.
11 And they say, How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most High?
12 Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches.
A false balance is abomination to the Lord: but a just weight is his delight.
He is a merchant, the balances of deceit are in his hand: he loveth to oppress.
Saying, When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn? and the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances by deceit?
Shall I count them pure with the wicked balances, and with the bag of deceitful weights?
Revelation 6: 5-6
5 And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand.
6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.
1 And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.
2 And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.
3 For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.
4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
5 For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.
6 Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double.
7 How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.
8 Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her.
9 And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning,
10 Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.
11 And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more:
12 The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyine wood, and all manner vessels of ivory, and all manner vessels of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble,
13 And cinnamon, and odours, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men.
14 And the fruits that thy soul lusted after are departed from thee, and all things which were dainty and goodly are departed from thee, and thou shalt find them no more at all.
15 The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing,
16 And saying, Alas, alas that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls!
17 For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,
18 And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like unto this great city!
19 And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! For in one hour is she made desolate.
20 Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her.
21 And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.
22 And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft he be, shall be found any more in thee; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in thee;
23 And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.
24 And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth.
So, we should be able to say with certainty that God is against most forms of Capitalism and all Usury, money lending, having a guarantor or being a guarantor, or buying things you don’t have the money to pay for but have to ‘borrow’ or go into debt for.
In fact, this includes most of the world today! How much pain we could save ourselves if we avoided these diabolical pitfalls, but instead we are being pushed into most of them by the advertising industry and the setup of the Capitalist system.
It’s offered to us like the apple to Eve:
And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
